How to make First Impression in an Interview

“You will never get a second chance to make your first impression” – Will Roger

We all have a tendency to perceive people based on their first impressions of us. First impression has always been a debatable topic as some say no one shall be judged based on the one meeting but others say the first meeting speaks a lot about the person. So putting up with good behaviour and a positive attitude is essential.

The employer tests during 15 – 30 minutes of interaction about psychological & intellectual ability and many more behavioural aspects to decide whether to offer the job or not. Hence, it is vital to portray the best version of you in the interview with the following points in mind:

1. Research about the company : The candidate should read about the company’s vision, mission, values, culture of the company, products or services being offered, and clients or customer base of the company. This would depict your preparation and commitment.

2. Dress Professionally: While going for an interview dressing plays a major role. As your dress reflects your personality and professionalism and respect for the company’s norms regarding dress code.

3. Communicate Effectively:  Speak clearly and confidently, maintain eye contact and listen attentively to an interviewer. Think precisely and articulate your thought and then communicate with the interviewer to demonstrate your communication skills.

4. Showcase your accomplishments: Highlight your achievements and relevant experience to emphasize the value it would add to the company. Reveal all the projects that you have completed successfully and show the challenges you overcame demonstrating your problem-solving ability.

5. Demonstrate your capability: Emphasis on your abilities like learning quickly, adapting to new situations, handle challenges positively and effectively. Also, let them know that you are adaptable and willing to take on multiple responsibilities, as well as that you are willing to up skill or reskill yourself.

6. Ask insights full questions: Prepare thoughtful questions regarding the company, role, and team. Show your interest and engagement in the opportunity. Avoid asking questions about the things that have been communicated to you by an interviewer.

Remember to be authentic and genuine throughout the interview process, and let your personality reflect your qualities.
